Located in coastal North Portugal, where the Douro River meets the Atlantic Ocean, Porto is the city that gave the country (and port wine) its name. It is a merchant city with an economy based on water-related activities. The old harbor, by Duoro’s riverfront, developed into the most picturesque neighborhood, Ribeira. Inside the old medieval wall, there is a labyrinth of narrow granite streets, tall houses covered in tiles of bright colors, clothes drying from balconies, and boats waiting for passengers. It is an underrated foodie city surrounded by vineyards and port cellars. It is a UNESCO World Heritage city and has been chosen Best European Destination. The people, history, legends, tradition, culture, scenic views, and world-famous Port wine, will inspire you to discover this fabulous “hidden gem”. Porto builds a massive holiday tree in front of the Camara Municipal (city hall). The tree is one of the biggest in Europe. The tour will start here and continue through the decorated streets out to the festive and beautiful riverfront. Along the way you will see and learn about local holiday traditions like Missa do Galo, Ceia de Natal, Consoada and the most famous holiday dessert, the Bolo Rei or King Cake.
