Did you ever wonder if Chinatown in New York City is a real “neighborhood,” or just something depicted in movies and on television? New York City’s Chinatown is the largest “Chinatown” in the world located on the lower east side of the Island of Manhattan. Chinatown is one of Manhattan's most popular destinations. How did this unique part of New York City become what it is today? What drove 150,000 folks to come here? Come along with us during this one hour tour and explore the wonder of everything “Chinatown.” We will immerse ourselves in the beautiful shops containing unique trinkets on these historic streets. You will see the location of the oldest general store going back 150 years as well as this community's oldest continually run business owned by the same family for 100 years! And as we view the two oldest restaurants in the neighborhood, you will almost be able to smell the delicious food coming right through the screen! We will experience vibrant Doyers Street, though once called “The Bloody Angle” with secret tunnels, is now full of hair salons, restaurants and bars. You have seen this street and others nearby depicted in countless films including “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” and “Law and Order.” Come enjoy the hustle and bustle of Canal Street, the widest block in Chinatown. Once a man-made canal, it is now "Bargain Hunters Paradise" and contains the "Chinese Diamond District." We will show you the magnificent marketing section of Mott Street with locals selling fresh fruits, fish, vegetables, and other goodies. It's so authentic all the signs are in Chinese! Our tour guide is a native New Yorker and has been a licensed tour guide for 16 years as well as an actress and singer.
