Omaha Beach is part of the Normandy coast, in northern France. It is located directly below the Pointe du Hoc and faces the English Channel. This was one of two beaches invaded by American troops, the other was Utah Beach. D-day took place on June 6, 1944. There were over 3,000 American casualties that day. This is where American troops, many just teenagers, disembarked from landing craft and braved German artillery fire. Today the beach is still strewn with what remains of German bunkers. Also nearby is the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial. The cemetery is over 172 acres and is located on the bluff over Omaha Beach. It is the first American cemetery on European soil. Our one-hour live, interactive virtual tour will begin on Omaha Beach in Normandy. The very beach that saw more than 156,000 troops land to liberate France, Europe, and the world. We will walk along Omaha beach, where you can see for yourself, why so many young American soldiers lost their lives. We will also see the location where 1,200 Nazi soldiers were there to stop them. From there we will walk up to the Normandy American Cemetery. Our guide will share some stories about the 9,388 young soldiers buried there. We will discover more about this unique site run by the US Congress, which is considered a true symbol of liberty.
