Venice is a city in northeastern Italy and the capital of the Veneto region. It is situated within a group of 118 small islands that are separated by canals and linked by over 400 bridges. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Venice is recognized as part of the artistic and architectural patrimony of all humanity. This one-hour Classic Venice tour will start in front of St. Mark’s Basin where ancient palaces are located on a monumental parade in front of the water. We’ll learn how the Venetians live in a city without cars and surrounded by water. See how they commute using water buses, water taxis and gondolas. We’ll then pass in front of the ancient Palace of the Prisons used by 400 years of prisoners, and its famous Bridge of Sighs which connects it to the fascinating medieval Doge’s Palace, the Republic of Venice governmental building. Upon entering monumental St. Mark's Square, we can get an appreciation of the nine-centuries old St. Mark’s Basilica decorated with more than 80,000 square feet of golden mosaics. The tour ends at the 300-year-old Cafè Florian, the oldest coffee house in the world, where generations of Venetians and visitors sit under the arches of St. Mark's Square. This tour will transport you into a city that has been ranked many times as the most beautiful city in the world, and one of the most romantic cities in Europe.
