Buenos Aires is the capital of Argentina. It is one of the most populous cities in Latin America, as well as one of the most important ports. It has a compact tree-lined center, similar to Paris, with many charming corners where tidy high-rise apartments mingle with 19th-century buildings. This big city has managed to preserve many of its old traditions. The city has 47 "barrios", which are all unique. Welcome to the beginning of everything Buenos Aires, Plaza de Mayo - May Square. This is the city square and foundational site. It is where Buenos Aires was founded in 1580 and is considered the heart of the city. A heart that is always beating, like the beat of the drums of the usual protests that take place here. Our personal, live, one-hour virtual tour will begin with a walk to the Plaza. On our way, we will pass by the oldest church and the oldest bookstore and learn about BA’s early days. Once at the square, we will go inside the Metropolitan Cathedral, where Pope Francis worked as a priest for several years. In the middle of the square, we will pay homage to the brave Mothers of the Disappeared (from Argentina’s Dirty War), fighting bigotry in the 1970s and keeping the memorial alive through today. From there, we will head to the Presidential Palace, Casa Rosada - the Pink House. Our guide will explain why it is pink and show us the famous balcony. It is the one where Eva Peron - Evita, used to give her memorable speeches, and the same where Madonna sang “Don’t cry for Me, Argentina”, and if you don’t remember that song, our guide can croon it for you!
