Buenos Aires is the capital of Argentina. It is one of the most populous cities in Latin America, as well as one of the most important ports. It has a compact tree-lined center, similar to Paris, with many charming corners where tidy high-rise apartments mingle with 19th-century buildings. This big city has managed to preserve many of its old traditions. The city has 47 "barrios", which are all unique. La Boca hosts the Caminito Street Museum, a colorful pedestrian-friendly zone that has an open-air museum and art market. Colegiales is known for its street art. Many of Buenos Aires’ most well-known urban artists grew up around Los Colegiales and Palermo, so this was one of the first places they began painting. From the first graffiti in the 1970’s, when “tagging” trains and buildings with markers and spray paint, street art has grown into a worldwide phenomenon, evolving into a sophisticated art form that covers the walls of cities around the world. Buenos Aires is one of the best places to see street art in South America. Our one-hour walking tour will begin around the local market in Los Colegiales. The market was built in the 1920s and occupies an entire block and was chosen by the “Meeting of Styles” Street Art Festival as one of its locations in 2011. Since then, international and Argentine artists have been sharing their art on the walls. During our tour, you will get to know the artists, their different styles and techniques, and discover the stories behind these murals. As we explore, we will discover how street art has an impact on day-to-day life and raises awareness about crucial topics. Our guide was born in Argentina and has lived in the US and Israel, speaking fluent English, Spanish and Hebrew.
