Located in coastal North Portugal, where the Douro River meets the Atlantic Ocean, Porto is the city that gave the country (and port wine) its name. It is a merchant city with an economy based on water-related activities. The old harbor, by Duoro’s riverfront, developed into the most picturesque neighborhood, Ribeira. Inside the old medieval wall, there is a labyrinth of narrow granite streets, tall houses covered in tiles of bright colors, clothes drying from balconies, and boats waiting for passengers. It is an underrated foodie city surrounded by vineyards and port cellars. Porto is Portugal’s second-largest metropolis, after Lisbon. It is a UNESCO World Heritage city and has been chosen Best European Destination. The people, history, legends, tradition, culture, scenic views, and world-famous Port wine, will inspire you to want to get to know what is still a fabulous “hidden gem”. This one-hour tour will take us to the bohemian part of the city, Clérigos Cultural Quarter. This is one of the upper parts of Porto. It is marked by Baroque architecture. We will see the admirable Tower of Clérigos, which is 249 feet tall and offers beautiful views of all of Porto. We will visit the sumptuous Cordoaria garden and its funny-looking trees. Then we will head over to the University and the world-famous Livraria Lello Bookshop. This bookstore is said to be the most beautiful in all of the world.
