Located in the Central Region of Ghana, Assin Manso is a town of profound historical significance, deeply connected to the transatlantic slave trade. Once a key stop along the route where enslaved Africans were transported to coastal forts, it now serves as a place of remembrance and reconnection. Surrounded by lush landscapes and flowing rivers, Assin Manso is a powerful symbol of resilience, offering visitors an emotional journey into the past. On our virtual walking tour, we will explore the Assin Manso Ancestral River Site, a landmark of immense cultural importance. We will visit the Ndonkor Nsuo (Slave River), where enslaved Africans took their last bath before being sent to coastal forts. In contrast, we will also witness the First Bath of Return, a modern ritual performed by African diasporans as a symbolic act of healing and reconnection with their ancestral roots. The surrounding natural beauty and rich history make this an unforgettable experience. As we continue our journey, we will visit the Memorial Wall of Return, where the names of descendants who have traced their heritage back to Ghana are inscribed, symbolizing a bridge between past and present. We will also explore the Ancestral Graveyard, where the remains of enslaved Africans from the diaspora have been reburied in a symbolic act of homecoming.
