Service Description

Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland, and one of the UK’s most beautiful cities. It is a compact, hilly city, with two distinct divisions, medieval Old Town and elegant, Georgian New Town. Edinburgh castle eternally looks over the entire city. The castle houses the crown jewels and the Stone of Destiny which is used in the Coronation of Scottish rulers. Our one hour live, personal, interactive, walking tour will focus on the center of the Old Town of Edinburgh in the heart of the Royal Mile. We begin at the Mercat Cross which was the hub of the open air market in the Medieval days and was also used for public punishments. From here we continue past the Law Courts and admire its facade with it's neoclassical architecture. Reaching the front of St Giles Cathedral we see some unique traditions and reminders of the past such as the Heart of Midlothian. We then admire the building from a distance with its crown steeple. Your virtual guide will then take you to the lawnmarket where you learn about one of the city's outlaw heroes, Deacon Brodie. We take a stroll up the castlehill to some of the main attractions of the city such as the Whisky Experience, Camera Obscura and Edinburgh Castle. If we are lucky we may hear some bagpipes! Next we go through one of the eerie closes. These tiny streets and back courtyards are covered on either side of the Royal Mile from top to bottom. Here we learn how this makes the layout of the old town of Edinburgh and why it's nickname is Auld Reekie.
