Step into the refined elegance of 18th-century Edinburgh as we explore the Georgian New Town, a triumph of Enlightenment-era planning designed to expand the overcrowded medieval Old Town. Built from the 1760s onward, the New Town showcased a new vision for urban living—with wide streets, grand neoclassical architecture, and orderly symmetry—symbolizing the city’s transformation into a modern, intellectual capital. The tour begins at the iconic Calton Hill, offering panoramic views over the Firth of Forth, the city’s waterfront, and the bustling expanse of Princes Street. From this dramatic viewpoint, you’ll see the elegant contrast between the Old and New Towns that defines Edinburgh’s unique character. We then make our way into the heart of the New Town, starting at St Andrew Square, once a prestigious residential address and now a lively commercial and cultural space. Continuing along George Street, admire beautifully preserved Georgian facades, stylish boutiques, and contemporary cafés set amid historic charm. Next, we visit the towering Scott Monument, a Gothic masterpiece dedicated to the great novelist Sir Walter Scott.
