Singapore, an AAPI Heritage Tour
Singapore: Chinatown's Multicultural Tapestry, a PRIVATE TOUR
Service Description
Located at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, Singapore is a tropical island city-state situated between Malaysia and Indonesia at one of the world's busiest shipping lanes. The city enjoys a tropical rainforest climate with consistent warm temperatures year-round, averaging 86°F (30°C) during the day and 75°F (24°C) at night. Singapore's strategic position at the crossroads of major sea routes has made it a natural trading hub for centuries, attracting waves of immigrants who built vibrant communities. Chinatown, one of Singapore's most historic districts, preserves the spirit of early Chinese immigrant life while showcasing the remarkable religious harmony that defines this multicultural nation. Welcome to one of Singapore's most vibrant and storied neighborhoods! This area is a beautiful tapestry of past and present, where you can feel the energy of early immigrant life alongside stunning modern landmarks. It is the perfect place to experience the city's true multicultural spirit. Our journey takes us along historic Eu Tong Sen Street, named after a successful Chinese businessman, where traditional shophouses stand beside contemporary buildings. We'll visit the Chinatown Heritage Centre to discover the compelling story of the Sansui women, female immigrants who worked grueling jobs in construction and other industries, defying traditional gender roles to support their families. We'll explore the charming Ann Siang Hill area, where restored shophouses and narrow lanes evoke old Singapore. A highlight of this tour is experiencing Singapore's extraordinary religious diversity within just a few blocks. We'll visit the Fairfield Methodist Church, reflecting the Christian community's presence, and the magnificent Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, a stunning example of Tang dynasty architecture housing a sacred relic. You'll discover the colorful Sri Mariamman Temple, Singapore's oldest Hindu temple with its intricate gopuram tower, and if time allows, the historic Jamae Mosque, built by Tamil Muslims in the 1820s. Discover Chinatown where temples, mosques, and churches stand side by side, embodying Singapore's remarkable spirit of harmony and tolerance. $79 for each additional screen (does not apply to corporate customers.) * This tour is not designed for our corporate customers.
