Considered to be a hidden treasure of Transylvania, the UNESCO Saxon Fortified Churches were built beginning in the 1300's and are still active through the early 2000's. The Saxons had settled in Transylvania back in the 1200's, mainly to defend the Eastern borders against the invaders. Even though the number of Saxons has decreased considerably over the last decades, Viscri (or Weiskirich in the Saxon dialect) remains one of the most authentic villages in Transylvania, where it feels like time simply stood by. Many say that the village became famous after 1998, due to the presence of HRH Prince Charles of Wales. The Prince fell in love with Transylvania and bought a traditional Saxon house in the village back in 2006. But few know that a handful of locals, led by the Saxons still living in Viscri, have contributed to the village's revival, especially by trying to not change their authentic and sustainable way of life. During our 1hour long live, private, interactive tour we are going to have a real (used for daily transportation) horse drawn carriage ride through the UNESCO Saxon Village of Viscri. The tour will show you the exterior of the UNESCO Fortified Church and Fortress of Viscri, then we will enjoy our carriage ride through town while our guide shares stories and insights about the architecture, and history of the village that time seems to have forgotten. If we are lucky, we will get to see the cows being brought back to their homes after a day at pasture. Towards the conclusion of the tour we will visit an authentic workshop of the village's Blacksmith within a Roma family. $79 for each additional screen (does not apply to corporate customers.) * This tour is not designed for our corporate customers.
