Our tour follows York's magnificent medieval walls, among the best-preserved city walls in Europe, revealing how these ancient fortifications protected the city through centuries of conflict and change. We'll explore the atmospheric Shambles, taking a complete walk through England's most famous medieval street, where overhanging timber buildings create a tunnel-like effect. Here we'll uncover stories of butchers, merchants, and daily life in medieval York. The tour includes St William's College and the Treasurer's House, discovering how the medieval church accumulated wealth and power. We'll also admire the Great East Window of York Minster, one of the world's largest medieval stained glass windows.From the medieval Merchant Adventurers Hall, we'll explore how York's traders built international commerce networks. The tour continues to the York Castle area and Clifford's Tower, revealing stories of royal power and conflict. We'll discover Viking York, learning how Norse settlers transformed Roman Eboracum into Jorvik, leaving lasting influences on Yorkshire culture that survive today.
