Your Favorite Opening Line

What book has an opening line that you still remember years later?

Share the line if you can, along with the title, and tell us whether it made you want to keep reading. I’m always curious which first sentences stay with people. 😊

One opening line I’ve always remembered is from A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…”

Even after all these years, that line still stays with me. It captures how life can be full of hope and hardship at the same time.

It certainly made me want to keep reading, and as I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to appreciate its meaning even more.

Every once in a while, a book describes a place so well that I stop caring what’s happening in the story for a second an

I want to see the street.

The landscape.

The building.

Sometimes I even end up looking it up before I finish the chapter. 😅

Books are funny that way. You can start traveling somewhere long before you ever see it.

What book has made you curious about a real place?

Just wanted to share a great listen with you all

Hey folks, Rubert here.

Just wanted to share something I've been listening to lately that really struck a chord with me. It's the audiobook version of The Game of Life and How to Play It by Florence Scovel Shinn.

At this stage in my life, you think you've seen and heard most of it, but this classic really gives you a fresh perspective on how we handle our daily thoughts, choices, and everyday stress. It's sharp, practical, and full of timeless wisdom that honestly still holds up completely today.

I've linked the Spotify episode below so you can stream it or play it as a background track while you're reading or relaxing:

Thank you for sharing, I really appreciate a good listen.😀

Evening question for my fellow readers 📚

Have you ever read a book that made you want to visit a place you’d never really thought about visiting before?

It doesn’t even have to be a travel book. Sometimes a setting is written so well that suddenly you’re looking up flights. 😄

What book was it, and where did it make you want to go?
